\nO welcome, thou that bring’st the summer nigh!
\nThe bitter wind makes not thy victory vain,
\nNor will we mock thee for thy faint blue sky.
\nWelcome, O March! whose kindly days and dry
\nMake April ready for the throstle’s song,
\nThou first redresser of the winter’s wrong!<\/p>\n
Yea, welcome March! and though I die ere June,
\nYet for the hope of life I give the praise,
\nStriving to swell the burden of the tune
\nThat even now I hear thy brown birds raise,
\nUnmindful of the past or coming days;
\nWho sing: “O joy! a new year is begun:
\nWhat happiness to look upon the sun!”<\/p>\n
Ah, what begetteth all this storm of bliss
\nBut Death himself, who crying solemnly,
\nE’en from the heart of sweet Forgetfulness,
\nBids us “Rejoice, lest pleasureless ye die.
\nWithin a little time must ye go by.
\nStretch forth your open hands, and while ye live
\nTake all the gifts that Death and Life may give.”<\/p>\n
